Shipping with track & trace. Amaro (Italian for "bitter") is an Italian term for bittersweet herbal liqueurs, usually consumed as a digestif. The alcohol percentage is between 16% and 45%. Amaro is usually drunk pure, or with ice. Cocktails can also be made with amaro.
Amaro is prepared by macerating various herbs, roots, bark, flowers, citrus peels, and / or spices in alcohol (spirits or wine), mixing the filtrate with sugar syrup and then ripening the mixture in oak barrels or bottles. Each producer has his own recipe, which often dates from the nineteenth century, and whose precise composition is kept secret.
Amaro is not to be confused with amaretto.
