Rare old toffee tin of Van Melle, manufactured between 1925 and 1935.
The tin has very beautiful images of various species of birds.
everything placed in a gold-coloured frame.
High, three rectangular sides, front with expansion with rounded corners. Sloping hinged lid.
Turquoise fond, gold rushes.
Lid: in circle with yellow background national coat of arms under canopy.
Front: bird of paradise on branch between leaves looking up.
Left side: parrot looking back.
Right side: peacock between leaves looking back.
Rear: octagon with black background in which a stylized cherub is blowing on musical instrument, placed against a gold-coloured vignette.
Van Melle began around 1840 as a bakery in Breskens.
In 1900 Izaak van Melle began to produce this machine as well.
Around 1920 Izaaks brother Dirk-Machiel started a factory producing biscuits and wafers, including the Maria biscuit.
