Ghoum - Rug - 111 cm - 161 cm

Ghoum - Rug - 111 cm - 161 cm
Silk on silk - Iran - mid 20th century

Note: Rug purchased in Italy from an antique dealer in the early 1980s and subsequently owned by a private collector, therefore certainly imported to Italy from Iran before 1 January 2015.

Exclusive and valuable figurative Ghoum tapestry/rug, with signature (shown in the photos), origin: Iran, dating back to the 1960s (approx. 50 years old), hand-knotted Persian, pile in very soft extra fine silk, warp and weft in silk. See the unique decorations which adorn the rug, the lustre of the pile, the shine of the natural colours, the precision of the features of the figures, the "soul" of the workmanship that ends between the fringes with coloured and longer cords. Dimensions: approx. 161 x 111 cm (the length of the longer fringes is not counted in the indicated size), total thickness 5 mm, pile thickness 3.5mm (as shown in the photos). A fabric webbing has been applied to the back, where the longest fringe is, on which four hooks have been sewn in order to hang the rug on the wall, as in the main photo, without ruining the rug. It is also possible to insert a steel or metal pole into the webbing to make the support rigid. The approx. number of knots is over 750,000 per square metre (as you can see in the detailed photos). Rug from a private home, washed by a professional and then always hung on a wall. In excellent condition, flawless, practically like new despite its age. The photos are integral to the description and show the detailed decorations that adorn the rug.

Rug made in Iran, in the holy city of Ghom in the centre of Persia
Some of these, such as this specimen, have extra fine silk making it thin and dense, crafted with great attention to detail using traditional animal and floral decorations. An exclusive rug with extraordinary richness of details and therefore with a very high number of knots per square metre. A hand-knotted rug which has taken a great number of hours of labour to create. A unique specimen with natural colours which, as a typical feature of silk, appear with different shades depending on the angle it is viewed from (as shown in the photos). Rug signed by the creator, with authenticity and origin tag on the back (shown in the photos).
Carefully packaged and shipped via tracked courier.
