Manuscript of the work “Slecht nieuws voor Doctor Paf de Pierennaaier; Pandemonium in de Grauwzone”

This is the only complete Berckmans manuscript ever available on the market, and as such it is a unique literary event.
Complete manuscript in 17 cahiers, with all versions and preliminary versions of the manuscript, with ideas, sequences, memories of earlier texts and also embryonic fragments of future texts (As op Jazzwoensdag). This is the fully completed first phase of the writing process of J.M.H. Berckmans. In a next phase the manuscript was typed and edited by Berckmans, together with his friend Geert Brees. It was then offered to the publisher.

Fragments in various states of coherence, but always typical Berckmansian texts, sometimes illuminated with illustrations, which again show what a gifted draughtsman Berckmans was. Also included are filling cards with essential pieces of text, and even a occasional document of a more personal nature.

Berckmans carried the manuscript he was working on with him, always and everywhere, hence the signs of use.

This manuscript is from the archives of Jef Meert, the publisher of the three-volume “Berckmans’ Biotoop”. (Cf. in this respect the excellent biography “Schrijven in de Grauzone” by Chris Ceustermans.)

A valuable insight into the author's method of working and a literary work of the first order.
