Antique oil painting on canvas from the 17th century depicting a still life with a fruit basket, ducks and a vase.
A work of excellent quality, in which all the elements are carefully delineated and distributed in an Italian landscape; each element is described by a fast and dense brushstroke, which offers a generous descriptive and tactile impression. The work shows suggestions of Jacob van de Kerckhoven's production (Antwerp, ca. 1637 - Venice after 1712), who was a Dutch painter, active mainly in Venice around 1663, where his surname was Italianized in 'Giacomo da Castello', and also the master of Giovanni Agostino Cassana. Thanks to his Flemish influences, the artist achieved considerable success, so much so that many of his paintings are mentioned in the inventories of the Venetian collections of the 17th and 18th centuries.
The author of this work, therefore, could be found in the circle of artists who worked closely with Kerckhoven.
Framed in a beautiful frame, more recent than the painting, gilt and decorated with leaf motifs.
The painting is in good condition considering its age; with some old scattered restoration and some light peeling of the pictorial surface, but no significant damage. The original canvas has an old relining that gives no evidence of any kind of preservation problem. Fine craquelure compatible with age. The stretcher was most likely replaced at the time of the re-lining.
