Three Vintage Shiwan Mud Men figurines, handmade of glazed pottery. Two figurines of circa 1930 (middle two, with the dark bottom), the other was made later (circa 1950-1960).
The figurines' 'porcelain complexion' was made possible by natural materials found in the Shiwanzhen Subdistrict of the provincial city of Foshan in China. 'What we call 'biscuit clay' was used for moulding the heads, limbs and parts of the body to resemble skin colour,' says Wong.
