This 15th-century manuscript leaf is from a Latin prayer book written in Normandy.
Imagine the medieval abbeys with their libraries where monks created beautiful manuscripts, illuminated with gilt-heightened and hand-painted initials on red or blue backgrounds. Time was not an issue, contemplation and quality all the more so.
This is such a manuscript on vellum (thin parchment - animal skin) with beautifully decorated initials and fine penwork in the margins, gilt-heightened. One side shows flowers and leaves with shiny gold! This is an original unique piece from the 15th century. Dimensions: 10 × 7 cm.
Condition: although more than 550 years old, the manuscript is still in good condition; the vellum is slightly tanned. Elements that determine the value: its rarity, quality, age and attractiveness. This is a masterpiece in any serious collection.
