Extreme RARE !!! Silica - Pyrite - Belemnite Natural - 63×30×27 mm - 68 g

Description
Extreme RARE !!! Silica - Pyrite - Belemnite Natural - 63×30×27 mm - 68 g
Dzheganas River - Karachay-Cherkessia, Russia

Truly unusual: half mineral, half fossil.
Silicified belemnite with pyritized end.
Very beautiful and shiny pyrite aggregates with belemnite ridges - a new discovery from a river bed in the Caucasus. ‘Belemnite' was replaced by flint, while the rotten meat of squids provided the necessary sulphur which, combined in a ferrous environment, allowed the growth of pyrite crystals. A very strange and extraordinary specimen. The pyrite is very beautiful, much brighter than the images can show.

The tip has been repaired but with this type of fossil is impossible to remove it from the matrix without splitting it.
