Display with original mammoth hair of a woolly mammoth from the Pleistocene of Siberia.
The fossil hair was found in the permafrost of Taimyr in Siberia.
The hairs are brown/red in colour. It concerns both long hair (which was on the outside of the coat and the downy hair that was close to the skin to insulate the mammoth directly from the cold).
These hairs are at least 10,000 years old and preserved thanks to the preservation in the frozen soil.
The dimensions of the display are about 7 x 7 cm. Including the base the dimensions are 10 x 9 x 5 cm (height x width x depth)
