Description
Mask (1) - Wood - kple -kple - baule - Côte d'Ivoire
2nd half 20th century - Good condition, used with some signs of wear

This kple-kple mask is made up of its flat head, two buffalo horns are raised, representing strength and fecundity. Frequently they appear freshly painted, because it is customary to repaint them for important festivities or when the painting appears dull, since the baulé want their masks to always be “beautiful”. The rounded shapes of the mask contrast with its rectangular mouth.
