History of Imilchil Meteor:
Imilchil is a small city in Morocco. It lies at an altitude of 2119 m It is famous for the Betrothal Festival - Souk Aam or Agdoud N'Oulmghenni. This festival takes place once a year and it is then when people from local tribes get married. Sometimes up to 40 people get married on this day. The history of the festival is like our own story of Romeo and Juliet. It is said that two people from different tribes fell in love with each other but they were not allowed to marry. They cried with sadness and cried until they died. As a result, two lakes formed by their tears in the mountains. These are the Lakes Isli and Tislit.
The interesting thing about these lakes is that scientists now think that it was formed when a meteorite was divided into two parts, a fragment of 70 metres and another of 50 metres. These meteorites created a double impact crater which subsequently formed the two lakes in the shape of tears.
An excellent opportunity to get the ‘lovers’ meteorite’ with this magnificent specimen.
