Collected in the region of Béoumi, near Bouaké, in Ivory Coast -
Baule Mblo mask. This type of Baule anthropomorphic mask represents an important person of the village. The facial features are very thin, conferring to the piece an expression of serenity. With scarifications on the cheeks and on the forehead. Hairdo in 3 parts, one on top in the middle, and 2 on the sides, forming finely braided plaits.
This type of African Baule mask was used for entertainment and rejoicing festivities. This Mblo mask has a protective function.
This mask is representative of Baule art, with a lovely balance between the forms and the volumes, presenting finely carved details.
