The Kakungu sculptures which belong to initiates of the highest ranks of the Bukota (Metoko secret society), are used during the initiation ceremony and are exhibited on the tombs of members of a high rank, for a certain period. These indicate the rank and status, and usually represent the man and the woman. The word Kakungu would symbolise an elderly person, full of dignity, victim of witchcraft of ritual pollution.
