Wonderful piece in koshirae, carefully restored.
There is a signature on the nakago and with the tokorusho. The item was purchased along with another blade (tachi) from the same seller. The signature translated is Minamoto Hidetoshi (late shinshinto).
Sugata Moroha zukuri with double hamon on both sides.
Hamon Gunome midare, midare, very fine hada ko itame.
Koshirae, aikuchi type, the silver parts of the kodogu have been restored and repolished. Truly not to be missed.
We are have tried to verify the signature in the best way possible. The signature of the sword is not guaranteed as there are no NBTHK or NTHK origami (authentification papers) with the sword.
To be reasonably sure of the maker of a specific sword, it needs to undergo 'shinsa' (inspection) at one of the major sword study associations (NBTHK or NTHK). These organisations assess the sword and issue papers (origami) that describe the authenticity and or historical importance of the sword.
