Jean-Baptiste Joseph Dieudonné Boussingault, born in Paris on 1 February 1801 and died in Paris on 11 May 1887, was a French chemist, botanist and agronomist.
His book, "Économie rurale", caused a sensation in 1843 and established his reputation as the first agricultural chemist. He consolidated his work on agricultural chemistry under the title Agronomie, chimie agricole et physiologie, eight volumes of which were published between 1860 and 1891, very quickly translated into English and German.
Member of the Académie des sciences, author of 350 publications, he quickly became a leader in agricultural chemistry. Louis Pasteur and his assistants attended his course at the Conservatory to refresh their knowledge of chemistry.
