Made of multicoloured jasper. This is a very beautiful example of the Mousterian occupation of the site.
The small site of Fontmaure is world-famous for its colourful base material of which tools were made. The site was inhabited as early as during the Acheulean, but was inhabited by Neanderthals more intensively during the Mousterian. Different phases of this habitation have been uncovered at this site, but unfortunately a large part of the site was destroyed by early cultivation of the subsoil.
