Description
Save Huys on Nova Zembla Willem Barentsz. - Linen
Netherlands - 1950-1974

This poster illustrates one of the most famous expedition travels to find a northern route to Asia.
Barentsz did indeed succeed reaching the northern tip of Nova Zembla, but afterwards found himself stuck in the ice. From washed up driftwood, largely coming from the by sea ice destroyed ship, a house was built, known as ‘Het Behouden Huys’, in which the winter was spent. The following spring an extra boat was built, so that the seventeen people on board could return to the civilized world. However, Barentsz died a week after departure.

The poster shows some signs of wear, see picture.
The poster will be carefully packaged and shipped by registered mail.
