Born in 1900 in Agen, Pierre Molinier, a surrealist painter and photographer, precursor of body art, committed suicide in 1976 in Bordeaux after having created a radical and pornographic body of work. He is best known for his erotic paintings and for his photomontages, stagings of his own body and transvestite self-portraits, where his cult of androgyny and his fetishism of legs are expressed.
His unique and enigmatic work influenced European and North American body art artists in the early 1970s, and continues to attract the attention of contemporary artists, critics and collectors of erotica.
