Description
Quintus Septimius Florens Tertullianus - Opera quae hactenus reperiri potuerunt omnia - 1598
Philosophy, Reference works, Religion - Quantity: 1 - Book

Folio, approximately 36 x 23 cm, pp. 209 + [3] + 1278 + [34], full leather binding with six raised bands on the spine, handwritten title within a tag on the spine, title page in red and black with woodcut brand, woodcut drop caps, head-, and tailpieces, portrait of the author at the end of the first part.
In fair condition, the cover shows damage and abrasions to the edges and rare woodworm holes, in very good condition inside, only with rare handwritten notes, a few reddened pages and very small woodworm holes on some sheets, well bound but with the seam slightly loosened on p. 419 (see photos).
Five volumes in one book, it constitutes a monumental edition of the Opera Omnia of Tertullian, one of the Fathers of the Church, who remained in the shadow compared to others, in particular to St. Augustine, because of his initial interest in doctrines later declared heretical, which, in any case, he abandoned very early on.
