BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED WITH 40 STUNNING COLOUR PLATES with tissue guards, as called for.

Bound in the original blue cloth with gilt title and a gilt vignette to the front board. Top page edges gilt. Bottom and fore edges uncut. xiii, 203pp. + 40 colour plates.

Dimensions: approx. 26cm x 20.5cm x 4.5cm

CONDITION:

The binding is bumped, rubbed and worn, with some small loss of cloth at corners. The boards are rubbed, marked and stained. The spine has been crudely repaired with a strip of worn and marked, blue book tape. The inner gutter of the front hinge is split but the binding remains secure. The text block remains secure but with movement. A large tear in the front endpaper has been repaired with tape. The endpapers are foxed. Light foxing and thumb soiling to title page. Light to moderate foxing and dust spots scattered throughout text. Occasional pencil scribbles. A few plates have the odd dust spot, thumb soiling or pencil scribbles to the blank margins, however, most of the plates remain in very good, clean condition with lovely, vibrant colours.

A fascinating Edwardian volume describing Liddell's travels around China, illustrated with exquisitely coloured plates.
