Beautiful work by this master of the underground. Peter Pontiac, real name
Peter J.G. Pollmann (Beverwijk, April 28, 1951 – Amsterdam, January 20, 2015) was a Dutch illustrator and comic artist. He made underground comics, posters and record covers.
Pontiac was closely involved in Dutch punk culture and lived as a squatter together with other punks during the time he was addicted to heroin and designed many covers for punk bands.
Many of Pontiac’s punk drawings of the covers and posters for performances were released by the publishing house Oog & Blik
His work was published in Aloha, Muziek Expres, Tante Leny presenteert!, RFP illustraties, Modern Papier, Gummi, El-Vibora, Anarchy comics, OOR, NRC Handelsblad and De Volkskrant.
Pontiac’s work is inspired by underground comics, in particular the work of Robert Crumb. He also made record covers and was interested in rock music. His work is compared to that of Jacques Tardi and Art Spiegelman.
