Charles Eames - Vitra - Office chair - EA 117

Charles Eames - Vitra - Office chair - EA 117
Switzerland - 1990-1999 - Aluminium

The aluminium chair is one of the greatest furniture designs of the 20th century. It was originally designed in 1958 by Charles and Ray Eames for the private residence of an art collector in Columbus, Indiana (USA). When building this chair the pair of designers abandoned the seat frame concept and opted instead for an extension of the fabric or leather panel between two aluminium struts in order to create a tight yet elastic seat. The chair adjusts itself to the shape of the person and is extremely comfortable, even without elaborate upholstery.
The Aluminium Group includes various models for use in private homes, offices and public areas. Vitra has been producing Aluminium Group chairs for several decades maintaining the same superior quality.

- Armrests: in lacquered die-cast aluminium

- Base: four spokes in lacquered die-cast aluminium.

EA 117 comes with adjustable feet.

This specimen in dark teal colour from the early 1990s is a great example of the quality of the Vitra brand, in very good condition.
