Don Mateo - Margaux

Don Mateo - Margaux
Silkscreen/Serigraph - Hand signed - 50 - 2018

Don Mateo, born in the early 1980s, he grew up with the hip hop culture and quickly developed a passion for graffiti.

In 2003, he joined the Fine Arts School of Besançon and the Facultad de Bellas Artes of Cuenca in Spain... Art is with him forever now! In 2010, Don Mateo moved to Lyon and made it his new playground. Very quickly, he fills the walls of the cities with his famous portraits.
He shakes up the urban codes to share his vision of the world and to clash the movement with this unique style. Portrait is a pretext to tackle painting issues (the figure, the line, the light). These portraits take on their full meaning as he oscillates between painting and sculpture. He reveals the frailty of our existence with subtlety, poetry and a certain bit of malice. ‘I am inspired by life in general and then I act according to my desires... My artworks may be committed at times, but it is not activism. It is rather an expression, a specific look at a topic. I am more concerned with art, conveying a message in order to condemn quickly results in representation, daily life... I prefer to deal with notions of poetry, of things which elude us, try to reach a feeling...’.
