Heights: 22,5cm and 31cm
We offer two RYUKYU MIYABARI Island Kokeshi from Okinawa. One is wearing a bold and brightly colored textile, known as ‘Bingata’. Originally it is a dyed and stenciled fabric worn by the aristocracy. It was also used for the customs of dancers who welcomed envoys from Japan and China. The traditional dance they perform is called ‘Yotsudake’. Translated it means ‘castanets’ made from bamboo. Bingata unique to the Ryukyu islands, is thought to have been used for over 500 years.
Very nice decorative pieces, not commonly found in Japan and elsewhere!
