Mainline History: The first prototype Series V160 was built by the Krupp company, and was delivered to the DB in 1960. It had running number V160 001 and had a rounded nose. Several other locomotives of this Series followed (No’s.V160 002 to 009) which were then given the nickname “Lollo”. The first of the Series V160 (V160 010) with different front was delivered in 1963, thus giving the V160 a new look. Up until 1968, 214 of these V160 locomotives were manufactured. (V160 011-224). In 1968 these locomotives were renumbered with the 216 numbers. The locomotives could achieve a top speed of 120 km/h.
The previous series of these locomotives were decommissioned between 1978 and 1984. The last of the Series BR 216 locomotives of the DB were decommissioned in 2004.
