Carmen Charro is a landscape painter, a still life with landscapes painter and a figures with landscapes painter. Nature is always present in her works. In her works, the perfection of drawing has always a great importance. In this perfection the artist demonstrates her academic training, first in the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Fernando and later in the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. This painter from Madrid presents in the Bernesga gallery a wide sample of her work from the last years where one can appreciate the varied origins of her inspiration. Carmen Charro shows herself in her work as an unrepentant traveller, moving her easel from her house’s living room to the shady corner of a swimming-pool where she portrays with detailed brushstrokes the beauty of a woman. Her journey extends to open landscapes of rugged horizons were the grandiose eloquence of the wild nature can be perceived. But she also looks for romantic perspectives in dream cities, such as Venice. In her works there is an inner message, that she specially conveys through flowers. When one tastes her paintings one founds the never ending colour of flowers, stretching from the immaculate white of roses to the strong purple of violets or to the incandescent red of poppies. In Carmen Charro’s paintings, flowers are like the soul, like the reflection of the painter’s spirit. Among the prizes Carmen Charro has obtained in her long career are, among others, the BMW (1987), the Premio de Pintura Durán (1986-87), the Premio Nacional del Congreso de los Diputados (1985) or the Francisco de Goya (1996).
