Description
Napoleon III jewelry box in lacquer and mother-of-pearl inlays inspired by - Napoleon III - Mother of pearl, Wood - Second half 19th century
Germany

Large black lacquered wooden jewellery box, richly decorated with mother-of-pearl inlays, gold arabesques and hand-painted flower bouquets.

What makes this item so special is that it has an old wax stamp from the main tax office in Cologne. In the characteristic style of France under Napoleon III, undoubtedly inspired by the Orient, it is up to us to imagine what journey it made before ending up in Germany... Is it French or from the Far East? Who took care to make it comfortably travel and why was it subjected to control? Who did it belong to?
In any case, it has a unique history. It is a question of seeking the answers and unravelling the mystery...

Beautiful preserved condition given its age, accidents and small lacks on borders, signs of age. See condition and defects on detailed photos.

Dimensions 15 × 33.5 × 25.5 cm

Will be carefully wrapped and secured for shipment with adequate material. Insured and tracked, with signature required upon receipt.
