Matchbox for lighting sacred candles in the church (1) - Charles X - Wood

Description
Matchbox for lighting sacred candles in the church (1) - Charles X - Wood
Italy - Early 19th century

Rare sacred devotional item, matchbox and striker in wood and brass from the late 1800s, found in churches next to the candles in the devotional area. Shaped like a circular column with base in pink alabaster. It has a top opening with lid and a small chalice-shaped finial and is gold-plated inside. The base is slightly chipped at some spots, yet this remains a rare object, hard to find on the Italian devotional items market. The lid is lined on the inside with a nice light blue silk, original from the 1800s. The match-striker strip was at the bottom, where now you can see the black metal strip. A unique and rare lot indeed. Worldwide tracked shipping via Poste Italiane.
