Valentine Val is first the model of Auguste Renoir, then her pupil. She became the companion of Charles Fray (1858-1939), familiar with Renoir, around 1891 and began painting, after following the teachings of Eugene Carrière. Her paintings depicting still lifes and bouquets of flowers are particularly appreciated. She also paints landscapes and some portraits. She left Charles Fray in 1911 to marry the painter and illustrator Tancrède Synave (1870-1936) on 26th December 1912.
She held an artistic and mundane salon at her home in Paris, where she received the artists and intellectuals of her time. Édouard Vuillard painted several portraits of Valentine Val.
