Old cast-iron safe manufactured in France c. 1860.
Made as a safe for storing important documents or jewellery. During the Victorian period it was easy to carry it by the lady or the gentleman thanks to its handle at the top.
These were also used as diplomats lock boxes on trips to the continent.
