Birth announcement for grandson Max. What can be seen? I designed cards for Anna and Daan on which the birth house played a central role. I wanted the same for Max. Because that birth house was the second and third stories of an old building above an antique shop at the Zuiderdiep in Groningen, the stairs in that house played an important role. I made a kind of comic where you climbed all stairs to the little attic room with Max’ crib. With 7 images, the card became so wide (78 cm ! ) that it had to be sent folded. But that gave me the opportunity to draw the entire building on the front and back of the folded card. So the relationship between inside and outside would become clear.
The remaining six sides from the back show Max’ toys, mixed with those of mother Lianne and father Michiel. Their old plush toys are guides in staircase land.
