Test prints of the cover of "De Blauwe Venus" - Four-colour printing
Before the digital revolution, an important test print looked like this: a booklet in true size with all shades of colour from black and white line drawing to full-colour final result. It starts with the black line, after which blue, yellow and red are added. With those four components, all colours can be reasonably made. This is how the lithographer reports to the publisher (and possibly the author) how he succeeded this time. (the term “lithographer” is still a legacy from the time of real lithography, like the works of Toulouse Lautrec).
This lot concerns the set of test prints for the cover of De Blauwe Venus from 1994. If you wanted to change something, it had to be done now, as it could hardly be done at the press. As they say in Haarlem: "Een hartstikke leuk boekje!" (a really great booklet!)
Booklet, 1994, eight sheets, 16 pages with 8 proofs, spiral binding, slightly larger than the album, 35x 24 cm, final result also separately on cut size included by the lithographer.
The winner of this lot will also receive the special print, made for this auction in an edition of 150 unnumbered copies, in colour in A4 size, signed by Henk Kuijpers (see final image).
The original of this print can also be found in this auction. See the final lot.
