Vintage planimeter in matching box. This planimeter is manufactured by A. Ott from Kempten, West Germany.
Presumably from the 1960s/70s.
A planimeter is a measuring device with which the surface of an area, on for example a map, can be determined by tracing the perimeter of the area using a marker. Its functioning is based on the Green’s theory, which relates the surface-integral and the circle integral over the contour of the surface. A planimeter is in fact an integrator that determines the circle integral and with that also the surface area. Hxwxd 5.5x10.5x31.5 cm. Will be sent by registered mail.
