Wine bought in January 2007 to a retired wine distributor from Haro, La Rioja.
Stored in private cellar up to today.
Very good storage conditions. Fully mature and therefore drinking well now, or cellar for next 15-20 years.
Vinified in wooden vat for 18 months and then aged in cask from 1957 to 1967. Re-capsuled and rebottled in 1978 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Bodegas Bilbainas (1901-1981).
95/100 Vinos Clasicos: "The palate is broad, tasty, with a lot of nerve. We are facing a wine that must have been a bomb at the time: a lot of concentration, acidity and firm tannins. Everything very well placed, in its place, and generously. A large amount of ripe fruit, with a quality note of sweetness, and spices, fine bitter and vanilla wood. This "Special Vintage" is the antithesis of the old Fine Claret from the same winery. All these wines were great examples that expressed the traditional Rioja styles from an outstanding vintage".
