A very rare candleholder of the "rat de cave" type with a trilobed base, which is decorated with grotesque masks and rests on 3 loin paw feet. The spiral stem is provided with a handle for allowing the remaining candle to be raised. Underneath is an original screw through which the stem can be removed from the base, thus serving as a travel candleholder.

Nuremberg. 2nd half of the 17th century.
