The painting is in good condition. The original mint green frame is in a mediocre to reasonable condition.
Soejatno Koempoel was at the Hollandsch Inlandsche School in Surabaya where his talent was uncovered by the director Van Staal. Van Staal brought him into contact with painter Gerard Pieter Adolfs. Adolfs learned Koempoel the technique of painting. In 1932, Koempoel moved to Malang and became a pupil of the painter Willem van der Does. His topics range from oxen carts, paddy rice landscapes, fish, bird and flower markets, stalls to rooster fights and traditional processions.
