Arne Bang was a trained sculptor and performed sculptures and decorations in the public space. Arne Bang has also solved graphical tasks and among other things. drawn three Christmas marks, but it is as a designer of stoneware, silver and tin that he is known nationally and internationally.
As a ceramic designer, Arne Bang was actually a self-taught artist, but he had an early openness and curiosity about different materials as well as a special sense of their many opportunities that characterized his entire multifaceted artistic work. The basis for his ceramic production was the sculpture education and his ability to model and design.
When Bang established Holmegaard Stoneware (1929), the goal was to create quality ceramics that collectors would like to own, but at a price that a larger audience could acquire. This succeeded so well that the stoneware in public was referred to as 'the gift'. Ironically, Bang's pottery today is something collectors around the world are looking for.
He designed vases, jars, dishes, bowls, mugs and lamp holders with a focus on a sculptural expression. The basic geometric shapes are set aside, however, softened by the fine glazes and with decorative variations such as applied figures.
