Original woodblock print - Utagawa Hiroshige III (1842–1894) - 'Koi fishing at Tone River' 利根川鯉漁天覧 - 'From the series "The Imperial Tour of Ouha" 奥羽御巡幸図会 - 1876
Gorgeous print by Utagawa Hiroshige III 三代目 歌川広重 (1842-1894), where he is at his best regarding the depiction of human figures.
It depicts a ferry site, probably on the Miya river, in the Iste province , with various ferries, but also with fishermen and their catch.
An intriguing image with all facets of a ferry service; horses, carriages and soldiers that need to be transported to the other side of the river.
The print probably comes from a series (?) and also shows the daily life in Japan.
It was issued in 1876.
