Original woodblock print - Imao Keinen (1845-1924) - No.: 25 Willow, Little Bittern - From "Keinen kacho gafu" 景年花鳥画譜 - around 1891
Imao Keinen, born in Kyoto in 1845, taught at the School of Painting in Kyoto and exhibited at shows in Japan and Paris. One of the most famous Japanese painters of his time, he became a member of the Art Commission of the Imperial family in 1904 and the Imperial Art Academy in 1919. Keinen earned lasting fame for his wonderful bird and flower designs, or kacho-ga, painted with gorgeous lifelike details.
This series consisted of a total of 160 prints that were bound in four books. Each book contained 40 prints from a season.
Very good condition - The margins are still intact and contain the binding holes with which they used to be bound in the album.
