Short biogaphy of KIYOHARA TAKAO (1916 – TBD):

Kiyohara Takao was an independent and well-established craftsmen born in 1916. He is considered a “mystery men” as little is known about his background or about whom he might have studied under. He lived in Shiroishi City (Miyagi Prefecture) and won multiple awards including the Prime Minister’s Prize at the All-Japan Kokeshi Contest in 1989. He was also an army pilot and he is considered to have been one of the people who helped pioneer the sosaku kokeshi movement. He is now deceased, date of passing undetermined.
