Beautiful promissory note (slave letter), numbered 773, ‘Suriname den 31 October 1863’, issued and signed by the Governor of the Surinam Colony as a compensation to slave owners for the abolition of slavery in 1863.
This promissory note was signed by R.F. van Lansberge and the amount is 1,000.00 guilders! The amount was paid out via various orders, places, signatories (including 4 January 1864 by J.C.I. van de Watering) and was actually redeemed in England in 1867. Very rare is that this note, on the front, has a large English tax stamp of one shilling, with initials and date 1/12/1867, as it was paid out there, which is quite rare!
With image of the three-master and many remarks covered by a Foreign Bill stamp, vignette of 50 G. on verso, dry stamp and stamps, extremely interesting historical document.
Condition: The document is in exceptionally good condition, with just a few folds. No pinholes, which are usually present.
Of course with signs of age.
The photos are part of the description.
Will be carefully packaged and shipped with track and trace.
