Description
Franco-Russian Alliance; 2 Chromolithos 1892 (2) - litho; ALEXANDER III, litho; Sadi CARNOT - 1892
France

2 rare chromo lithos; ALEXANDER III and his Family. Sadi Carnot, President of France and his Generals.
The secret Franco-Russian Alliance was established on 17 August 1892 during a visit by Tsar ALEXANDER III to French President Dadi Carnot.
It was a step towards WW I.
The reason for this secret treaty; Russia came into a very vulnerable position after the Triple Allegiance was formed, Germany, Italy and Austria-Hungary. Russia was no longer welcome. France had come into an isolated position after the loss of the Franco-German War and sought revanche for the Elzas-Lorraine region lost during the war.
The alliance also meant that if one of the two countries was attacked, the other country would provide assistance in military aid.
