U-453 Brussels style dresser designed by Jiri Jiroutek in the 60s Czechoslovakia
What makes this dresser stand out is its modern, modular form based on geometrical figures and shapes. A total of eight drawers divided into two rows. The drawers are decorated with carved and slightly projected elements, which create the rhythmic mix of light and shade composition of this piece. It is the essence of decoration. The body of the dresser is supported by small legs positioned at an angle.
The inside of the drawers is made of an ochre coloured synthetic material which matches the orange shades of the wood.
The dresser was manufactured by Interior Praha, established in 1950. In the 60s, the company collaborated with many famous modernist Czech
designers, such as Jiri Joroutek, Jindřich Halabala, or Miroslav Navrati, who created furniture inspired by the Bauhaus and reflecting the influence of modernist pioneers: Le Corbusier, Mart Stam, Adolf Loos, or Marcela Breuera.
