Samuel Schellink was born in Utrecht in 1876 and is particularly known as a painter of the world-famous porcelain eggshell of the Rozenburg plateau factory. In 1892, he joined the Rozenburg as a student painter. He was a self-taught artist and, in addition to an earthenware painter, he was a talented painter, etcher, watercolourist, ceramicist, pastelist and also an art dealer. Later, he also worked as a ceramic painter at the Amphora and Goedewaagen. This gouache is clearly inspired by the decoration of the Jugendstil Rozenburg eggshell porcelain.
