Old color example of Ortelius' map of Africa, from Ortelius' Theatrum Orbis Terrarum , the first modern atlas. The map was the first widely disseminated modernized map of Africa in the latter part of the 16th Century.
Condition: Map is laid down on a carton board. It's only glued on the four edges and on the left margin. A professional restorer can easily remove the map from the carton board. However, the map can be displayed as is. Furthermore there are three areas where there are some small pieces of paper missing. They appear white on the photos. 1) Whale on the left, 2) lowest part of the main cartouche 3) Left of the smoke from the 3 ships (check the photos)
