The Bell beaker culture and the bell beaker people: they took their name from their characteristic bell-shaped beaker, decorated in horizontal zones with finely toothed stamps. The graves of the beaker people were mostly modestly separate graves, although in many parts of Western Europe they often took the form of megalithic graves.
A warrior population: they were mainly archers, but they were also armed with a flat, toothed dagger or copper spearhead and a curved, rectangular wrist protector.
Their extensive search for copper (and gold) has in fact considerably accelerated the spread of bronze metallurgy on the European continent.
Probably originally from Spain, the Beaker People quickly spread to Central and Western Europe in their search for metals.
In Central Europe they came into contact with the Battle hammer (or Single-Grave) culture, which was also characterized by cup-shaped pottery (though different in detail) and by the use of horses and a battle axe with a shaft hole. The two cultures gradually mixed themselves and later spread from Central Europe to eastern England.
