H M Krabbé (1868-1931) - Oma met slapend kleinkind
Watercolour - Hand signed - 1906

Krabbé studied at the Kunstnijverheidsschool and the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam (1883-1888) under the guidance of August Allebé and Rudolf Stang. Later, he would become a tutor himself at the arts and crafts school in Haarlem (1896-1906), where he, amongst others, taught A.W. Kort, Ina van Heek and Charles Beck.

He painted, made watercolours, drew, etched and lithographed. His topics were often soldiers and sailors, later also interiors with people. Besides that, he made city views and still lifes. As of 1914, he mainly painted portraits. Krabbé was a member of the art society Arti et Amicitiae. He received several (international) prizes. He passed away in 1931 in Amsterdam and was buried at the Nieuwe Oosterbegraafplaats. He was the founding father of an artist family: his son Maarten, grandsons Mirko (multidisciplinary artist), Tim (writer), Jeroen (actor), and great-grandson Jasper became artists.
