Description
Gold coin balance - Sovereign - England - ca. 1840 - Brass - First half 19th century
England

From my dismantle-collection:

Making a profit by filing off (pruning) gold coins
whole and half Sovereign, had to be prevented.
Around 1810, the invention of the Sovereign Rocker was the solution.

Beautiful and accurate scales.
The Sovereign Rocker or Pocket Balance (in the Netherlands also called wipbalansje [bounce balance] )
Dates from around 1840.
Origin: England
Dimensions: 9 cm.
Marked with approval marks (KROON)

Due to its small size the balance is easy to carry.
Intended for accurately measuring and weighing of the whole and half gold sovereign

which was in circulation back then, in order to determine the right weight of the gold.

The weight - the diameter and thickness of the gold could be measured with this balance (good or too light)

Weight, including package: approx. 250 grams
Shipping: very well packaged, sent by registered mail.
