Description
Sculpture (1) - Wood - moba - Togo
2nd half 20th century - Good condition, used with some signs of wear
This type of Moba represents an ancestor of the head of the family.
It stands on the house altar and guarantees the welfare of the whole family.
The almost spherical head show no facial features.
The Moba figurines consist of three types, but are all used for protection.
I acquired this copy in situ in 1975 during one of my many missions, where I did a lot of field work among the Moba.
They live in the north of Togo.
