Pair of torches in mercury gilt bronze, 19th century and Louis XV style, by Juste Aurelius Meissonnier. Freemasonry coat of arms. Expertised by Christies, Paris.
Date or reference under both of them (1750)
Beautiful pair of Louis XV style gilt bronze torches.
Very rich ornamentation, rocaille type, finely chiselled with motifs of volutes, counter-volutes, staples, cartridges, foliage; they rest on a base, eventful in shape, adorned with busts of finely chiselled angels.
In the Louis XV style, directly inspired by the models of Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier, our candlesticks are a production of the late 19th century, 1880s-1900s, a period when Ornamentalists, bored with pastiche, decided to reissue perfect reproductions of 18th century models, adding the perfect finishing that the 19th century technique made possible.
Height 30 cm, foot diameter 15 cm
